According to members of the Section 1 basketball committee, the Biondi boys basketball team is under investigation for using an illegal player during Friday's Class D championship game. Biondi won its third straight Section 1 title by defeating Greenburgh Academy 69-59 at the County Center.

Iona Prep easily beat LaSalle 66-45 today at Mount St. Michael in the CHSAA A quarterfinals and advanced to the league semis for the second straight year. It is a different story for the 2012 Gaels, however, with Cardinal Hayes, Mount and Stepinac - last year's other semifinalists - up in the AA.

The CHSAA A division intersectional playoffs begin on Saturday at Mount St. Michael. Iona Prep is the only local team involved, but the Gaels certainly have as good a chance as anyone at winning it all. Because Iona Prep won the CHSAA's New York-A division, they don't tip in the playoffs for nearly two more weeks.
